With the goal to get my fill of hockey, and lacking a professional team in Seattle (at least for now), I went to a Seattle Thunderbirds game. I’m a hockey novice, but these games are incredibly fun.
It’s notable how the number of failures (shots on goal) far outweigh the successes (goals). In fact, on average there are 10 times more shots on goal than goals in the NHL.
On top of these unfavorable odds, players face penalties, fights and heckling. Despite all this, players persist. What a lesson for entrepreneurs and startup leaders!
This is a great way to measure your progress.
Let’s face it, if you are not taking the shots, you can’t win. When you think about what you want to accomplish in a given time frame, consider measuring your progress against how many shots you are taking.
When you face penalties, shift strategies and focus on penalty killing. Get active.
Don’t let emotions get the best of you. Shake it off. Penalties get in the way of the win.
